PATTS
The area of assistive technology is ever changing and expanding. New assistive devices are being developed, manufactured and marketed to help persons with disabilities. The Partners in Assistive Technology Training and Service (PATTS) program is designed to address continuing education needs of professional and paraprofessionals in assistive technology related disciplines, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, and others.

PATTS is offerred by Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and which offers state and nationally accredited programs in nursing, occupational therapy assistant, physical therapist assistant, and speech language pathology assistant.

  Certification
Individuals are encouraged to participate in one or more courses to enhance their understanding of assistive technology.  Upon successful completion of the four courses in the program, participants will receive a Certificate in Assistive Technology from Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. Each course yields 2.4 hours in CEU credits.

Audience
The target audience for this program includes, but is not limited to, professionals and paraprofessionals in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and  language pathology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, and case management. Persons with disabilities, families, and caregivers are welcome to attend any of the courses.

Courses
There are four PATTS courses, detailed below. Each course features lesson topics, or "learning units,"  which typically span one or two weeks. Each unit introduces the topic, gives assigned readings, and lists required activities for completion of the course.
