Searching for information on the Internet can be time consuming and frustrating. The Guide to Medical Resources is designed to locate useful medical information quickly and efficiently. The Guide has brief annotations and links to selected www health sites, electronic journals and directories as well as Internet search engines. The primary objective of this web site is to assist users in accessing relevant medical information from the Internet.
The international/African guide was developed at the University of Zambia to support health care in Southern Africa by Lenny Rhine, University of Florida Health Science Center Library, who initiated this project as part of his sabbatical in 1996/97. During the initial phase of the website development, he concentrated on the organization of links to medical information on the World Wide Web. During the second phase, he continued to add links to external sites. He now understand the value of this project as a means of fostering two way communication on the Internet.
This edition is focused on Australian health care resources and the surrounding Pacific countries. There has also been a significant upgrade in the technology platform. This edition uses XML, XHTML, CSS (Cascading style sheets), <META> tags, and version control (CVS. These upgrades should make the site more sustainable. The list of resources is growing daily
The Table of Contents page of the Guide contains a table consisting of six categories (A-Z Site Index, Health Indexes, Full Text Documents, Internet Directories, Australian Health Resources, and Other). The "A-Z Site Index" category contains a link to an alphabetical Index of all sites in the Guide.
Each category contains cluster hypertext links to related subjects. The links are a blue font and are underlined. By clicking on a related subject link, you will proceed to a list of annotated hypertext links. Within the specific subject page, you will find links to numerous WWW sites outside of this website plus some fulltext documents within the Guide. If you leave the Guide to another site and wish to return, click on the "Back" buttom that usually is located at the top of your Internet browser.
For navigation within a page, place the mouse on the right hand bar to scroll up and down each page or use the scroll down or up buttons on your keyboard. To click on a hypertext link within a page, use the mouse to place the curser on the specific link. Then click using the top left box of the mouse. Use the navigational links at the bottom of each page to move around the various pages.
